How We Socialise In & Out of the Office

As we spend most of our time at work, it's important to make sure that it’s worthwhile and fun. Because if you’re not enjoying doing your job and having fun with the people around you, what’s the point?!

The team and I have become really close and listed below are some of the ways we’ve bonded. Pre-warning, it involves a lot of food!

Every Friday, we do ‘Breakfast Club’, and as you can probably guess by the name, we all go for breakfast together in the canteen. It’s a nice way to ease yourself into that Friday feeling, plus the hash browns are amazing!

Sometimes the office is a bit busy so we get into a bad habit of skipping breakfast during the week, but my manager came to the rescue when she surprised us with Nutella filled croissant cupcakes! Warm and with a cup of tea, it was lovely. If you fancy one they are sold at Costa Coffee!

Another reason why our Fridays are always exciting is ‘Treat Friday’ where our design team take it in turn bringing a range of goodies to the office. My favourite was when the talented Garment Technician made Tiffin.

Unfortunately, it was all eaten before I could take a photo but below are some of my other favourite treats brought in.

Jess brought in some classic Party Rings

Hannah kindly brought in a big bag of chocolate!

We had a bake sale across the whole building and I had an amazing vegan Biscoff cupcake. Needless to say, a lot of cake was consumed that day, and more importantly lots of money raised!

Outside the office it’s hard to plan days/nights out with all of us, but we have managed a good few activities on the design team! One favourite of ours is ‘Crazy Pedros’, there’s two in Manchester, one in the Northern Quarter and the other in Spinningfields. Happy hour is great, not only do they do 2-4-1 but the pizzas are £2 a slice!

The time I’ve spent at Cobalt, me and the other placement student Hannah have become really close. We’ve done lots of trips together, but the best so far has got to be Blackpool. I’d never been, and now understand why everyone says there’s no place like it. Where else can you find 10p bingo and the best chips and gravy! Even better, Hannah won at the bingo, so she got some rock to share at the office.

Lastly, after a long day at work, we spontaneously go out for food and drink, often at the expense of not going to the gym but It’s really nice to catch up after work hours and see where the night takes us.

Moving to a new city by myself was daunting, I’d never been to Manchester beforehand, and I’ve been really lucky to find a wonderful team to experience the best bits of the city with. If this experience has taught me anything so far, it’s that it's so important to make the most of the people you work with, because it makes everything more exciting!
